Medicinal Herb Plant Starts come in a 3" square pot, except chamomile which comes in a 4-pack.

Our plant starts are Certified Naturally Grown. We always use organic, non-GMO, and heirloom seeds, biologically active & organic potting mix, and naturally-derived fertilizers.

 PLANT PROFILES

Angelica  - Angelica archangelica - The roots are a warming expectorant and aid in respiratory, digestive, and ovarian health. Harvest the root in the fall of first year or spring of second year or let it go to flower, producing beautiful large umbels in its second year that attract many beneficial insects and bees. Biennial.

Anise HyssopAgastache foeniculum - Native pollinator plant. Leaves and flowers have a sweet and floral taste like a mild licorice. Harvest for iced and hot tea, salads, and desserts. Perennial.

ArnicaArnica chamissonis - Meadow Arnica. Small yellow flowers are used as a topical healing remedy for bumps, bruises, and strains. Harvest to infuse in oil for medicinal use. Plants will spread by root runners to fill in the area by year two. Reaches 1-2 feet tall. Perennial.

AshwagandhaWithania somnifera - An adaptogen that eases stress, enhances energy, and balances hormones. The root is harvested in the fall of the first year just after the first frost. Annual.

Bee Balm Monarda fistulosa - A native prairie plant that pollinators & herbalists love. Leaves and flowers have a spicy taste similar to oregano. A great anti-microbial herb that aids respiratory health. Flowers in the second year. Perennial.

Blue Vervain - Verbena hastata - Eases stress & anxiousness, calms the nervous system, and relaxes muscle tension. Native medicinal plant with purple flowers up to 5 feet tall. Perennial.

Calendula, Resina - Calendula officinalis - The poster child of the herb world! Cheerful orange flowers are a staple in the garden and the medicine cabinet - healing afflictions of the skin, moving lymph, and restoring the GI tract. Pick flowers continuously for a harvest that lasts all summer. Resina is the strongest variety for medicinal use. Annual.

Catnip Nepeta cataria - Far more than a treat for our feline friends! Catnip is an excellent remedy for digestive tension and upset stomachs as well as being a natural sleep aid. Perennial.

Chamomile - Matricaria recutita - These daisy-like flowers are the definition of small but mighty. A gentle but effective calming herb. useful for sleep, settling an upset stomach, and soothing irritated skin. Often re-seeds itself. Annual. 4-pack.

Echinacea - Echinacea purpurea - A first-year flowering native pollinator plant. Makes a stunning addition to any garden and brings beneficial insects to the area. Echinacea is an immune stimulant, flowers make any tea blend lovely with their purple hue. Harvest flowers selectively the first year as plants establish, roots can be harvested in 3-4 years. Perennial.

Elecampane - Inula helenium - A magestic plant, sending up 6 foot stalks with bright yellow flowers in its second year. Elecampane is a warming expectorant and roots are harvested to make remedies for lung health. Perennial.

Feverfew - Tanacetum parthenium - A lovely garden plant with daisy flowers similar to chamomile. Feverfew is a bitter herb - prepare a tincture for headaches and migraine relief, and blend sparingly with other tasty herbs for tea. Makes a great cut flower. Perennial.

Hyssop Hyssop officinalis - Purple spike flowers make a nice perennial border plant. Harvest for lung-supportive teas and to make cough syrup or throat lozenges. Perennial.

Lavender - Lavandula angustifolia - English-type Lavender - "Ellagance" from Johnny's Selected Seeds. This variety should send up flowers in its first year. Harvest flowers throughout the summer for teas, desserts, and drying. Perennial in our zone if mulched over-winter.

Lemon Balm - Melissa officinalis - A bright lemon-flavored mint. Eases stress, cools a hot temper, and supports the immune system. Easy to dry for tea and makes a great culinary herb. Perennial.

Marshmallow - Althea officinalis - The whole plant is medicinal. Harvest leaves and flowers for salads in first year of growth, wait to harvest roots until at least second year. Marshmallow likes moist soil, can tolerate some shade. Perennial.

Motherwort - Leonurus cardiaca - The lion-hearted, a fierce protector of emotional well-being. Well-known for easing anxiety and supporting cardiovascular health. Motherwort is a very bitter herb - harvest to make a tincture. Perennial.

Patchouli Pogostemon cablin - An herb in the mint-family with a strong aroma and fragrance. Perennial, may be potted up and brought indoors to overwinter.

Skullcap Scutellaria lateriflora - A mint-family plant without any aroma. Skullcap is a bitter tonic for the nervous system, easing stress, and supporting sleep. Likes moist soil and can tolerate part shade. Perennial.

Spilanthes - Acmella oleracea - Nibble a bit of the flower and your mouth will tingle for minutes! A fun border plant as well as a useful immune stimulant. Also known as Buzz Button. Annual.

St Johns Wort Hypericum perforatum - Small yellow flowers yield a dark red pigment that turns infused oil and tinctures a deep burgundy color. Brightens mood & eases despair when taken internally, heals sore muscles when applied externally. Perennial.

Tulsi, Kapoor - Ocimum africanum - Temperate Tulsi. An uplifting adaptogen, boosts energy and mood while regulating the stress response. Lovely aroma of watermelon and clove. Perhaps my favorite scent on the whole farm! Yields multiple harvests in one season. Annual.

Tulsi, Krishna - Ocimum tenuiflorum - Darker purple leaves than Tulsi Kapoor with heavier notes of clove. Excellent taste for tea. Annual.

Valerian - Valeriana officinalis - Valerian roots are an excellent herbal sedative. Plants will flower in the second year - dig the roots in the fall of its second year or spring of its third year for medicinal use. Biennial.

Wormwood - Artemisia absinthium -  A very bitter tonic herb, often used to flavor liqueurs and bitters. The silver-green velvet leaves are a stunning addition to any medicinal herb garden. Perennial.

YarrowAchillea millefolium - True White Yarrow - A native pollinator plant that is gorgeous in the landscape and useful in the medicine cabinet. Drink yarrow tea for flus and fevers, or apply topically to cuts and small wounds. A host plant for many beneficial insects. Perennial.
