Vegetable plant starts come in a 3" square pot.
Our plant starts are Certified Naturally Grown. We use organic and non-GMO seeds, organic approved potting mix, and naturally-derived fertilizers.
Pick-up your pre-ordered plant starts one of these three events:
Sunday, May 7th at Newbo City Market in Cedar Rapids 10am - 4pm
Thursday, May 11th at Morning Glory Farm in Mt Vernon 4pm-6pm
Saturday, May 13th at the Iowa City Farmers Market 7:30am-12pm
Once you have your plant starts in your cart and before checkout - please indicate in the Notes section at which location you will be picking up your plant starts.
Plant Profiles
Cucumber, Cool Customer - uniform fruits average 4" long with exceptional flavor. grow a few and make enough pickles to last the year. don't forget to order a Dill plant start, too!
Cucumber, Marketmore 76 - a classic slicing cucumber, 8-9" long. perfect for summer salads.
Pepper, Habanada - all the flavor of a Habanero pepper without any of the heat! a dream come true for the Midwestern palate.
Pepper, Cayenne - this highly productive plant yields bright red fruits that are 6" long. easy to dry for home-grown chili flakes or make a fresh hot sauce.
Pepper, Serrano - Emma's personal favorite pepper for fresh eating and salsa making! flavorful with medium heat.
Pepper, Shishito - thin-walled peppers are very flavorful with mild heat. toss them on the grill until blistered, then season with lime juice and salt - a fabulous summer treat.
Rhubarb - our namesake! this is a first-year plant grown from seed and stalks should not be harvested until second year so the plant can establish. harvest lightly in year two, in year three harvests can be more substantial. a must have for every Midwestern garden.
Tomatillo - large fruits grow inside husks. makes an excellent salsa verde - pair it with a Serrano Pepper plant!
Tomato, Brandywine - heirloom slicer tomato, often yielding 1# fruits. deep pink skin and smooth, red flesh. Indeterminate.
Tomato, Cherokee Purple - heirloom tomato with rich flavor and great texture. Indeterminate.
Tomato, San Marzano - excellent paste tomato for sauces and canning. Indeterminate.
Tomato, Striped German - heirloom slicer tomato with shades of yellow, orange, and red - the marbled interior makes for an elegant and beautiful slice. Indeterminate.
Tomato, Sun Gold - arguably the best tasting cherry tomato there is! small orange tomatoes have low acidity and an incredible, slightly-sweet flavor. Indeterminate.
